Pedro Fernandes de Queirós (1565 to 1644)
In 1603, Portuguese explorer Pedro Fernandes de Queirós, sailing under the banner of the Spanish King Philip III, was on his second voyage into the Pacific, looking for the great continent most explorers believed must be somewhere in the southern oceans well south of the equator.
De Queirós didn’t find the continent but assumed it was there and, being a devout Catholic intent onbringing Christianity to the ‘heathens,’ in May 1606 named it Explorer De Queirós didn’t find the continent but assumed it was there and, being a devout Catholic intent onbringing Christianity to the ‘heathens,’ in May 1606 named it ‘Austrialia del Espiritu Santo’ which has been translated as, ‘The Great Southland of the Holy Spirit.’.
He proclaimed :
“Be witness the heavens and the earth, and the sea and all its inhabitants, and those who are present, that I, the Captain Pedro Fernandez de Quirós, in these parts which up to the present time have been unknown … [W]ith authority from the Supreme Roman Pontiff, Clement VIII, and by order of the King, Don Philip III, King of Spain… I take possession of all the … lands that I have newly discovered … and all this region of the south as far as the Pole, which from this time shall be called Austrialia del Espiritu Santo.”
Australia’s first Christian church service led by Rev Richard Johnson
- Sunday 3 February 1788.
On the 26th January 1788, under the command of Captain Arthur Philip the First Fleet arrived in Botany Bay. Within 8 days of the arrival, the first Christian church service was conducted in the open air under a big gumtree near Circular Quay, Sydney Cove led by chaplain Richard Johnson.
In Sydney, Johnston built the first church and first school in the Sydney settlement. He and his wife Mary also made significant efforts to befriend the local indigenous people. .
Both Samuel Marsden (1765 - 1838) and Governor Lachlan Macquarie (1762 –1824) were both devout Christians and had significant influence in the early colony. Governor Macquarie built schools for indigenous children and is remembered for his sympathetic policies to the native inhabitants.
Australia’s Light Horsemen (1917 Battle of Beersheba).
Australia’s brave light horsemen on 31 October 1917 liberated Jerusalem from centuries of Turkish rule. God was about to use his key (the Australian infantry) to unlock the doorway to liberate Jerusalem that had been firmly closed for centuries.
During the charge on Beersheba, 31 light horsemen were killed, 36 were wounded with 70 horses dying on the battlefield. Many Turks were killed and up to 1,000 captured. However, the capture of Beersheba enabled the Australians and British to break the enemy line near Gaza and regain land controlled by the cruel Ottoman empire.
This historic event had significant implications for the eventual rebuilding of Israel prophesied in the Old Testament, leading to a final Jewish Nationhood in 1948. As we know in May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion, the head of the Jewish Agency, proclaimed the establishment of the State of Israel.

Smith Wigglesworth (1859 to 1947)
Smith Wigglesworth (10 June 1859 – 12 March 1947) was a British evangelist who was influential in the early history of the Charismatic Christian movement believing in a direct personal relationship with God and the Trinity through baptism with the Holy Spirit. In addition to ministering at many churches throughout Yorkshire, Smith had an international ministry and visited Australia in 1927. He prophesied the last great move of the Holy Spirit.
Smith Wigglesworth prophesied:
"Australia you have been chosen by God for a great move of the Holy Spirit. This move of God will be the greatest move of God ever known in mankind’s history and will start towards the end of the 20th century and move into the 21st century. This move of God will start a great revival in Australia, spread throughout the whole world and usher in the second coming of Jesus. This will be the final revival before the coming of the Lord."

Barry Wunsch (the Canadian Hammer) – 21 September 2023
I have had this burning in my Spirit, and the Lord released me to share.
Unto Him be all the Glory and honour !
Choose on this day whom you are going to serve !
As I was preparing for today, with the understanding of where we are, and what is coming. We are called out of Babylon into the Kingdom, in the Biblical unfolding of events that I was to release today. I felt that today I was to stand as a Prophet and make this call to the Nations and to the Seven Mountains to be clear with this word and call for a response. For He (Our GOD) is requiring a response. So, hear the word of the Lord:
“Choose on this day whom you are going to serve.”
